Walsall's on-loan centre-back Clayton McDonald says he understands why he is not in manager Chris Hutchings' starting line-up at the moment.
The 20-year-old is in the third month of his loan deal from Manchester City but finds himself behind Mark Hughes and Manny Smith in the pecking order.
"They've done very well, I can't fault no-one, they're keeping clean sheets," McDonald told BBC WM.
"For a strong team you need a strong defence," he added.
"The lads at the back are doing their job, so it's just down to the boys up front to bag a couple more goals."
McDonald is the son of former Saddlers striker Rod, and he is not ruling out the possibility of following in his father's footsteps and signing a permanent deal at the Banks's Stadium.
"It's a good club with good ambition, so I wouldn't rule it out," he added. "We'll just hopefully see how it goes in the future."
