Mullen is hoping to avoid selling any players during January.
Walsall manager Jimmy Mullen believes the credit crunch could help him keep his squad together during January.
Anthony Gerrard in particular has been attracting attention from Championship clubs, and Mullen wants to keep him.
Mullen told BBC WM: "It's different to August because now we have a worldwide recession and football clubs aren't in the same situation as they were then.
"I certainly hope that's the case because I want to keep [Gerrard]," Mullen added.
"I've been delighted with him since he went on the transfer list. He's a very, very good player and he's been magnificent."
