Walsall boss Jimmy Mullen is taking a look at defender Richie Byrne after he was released by Oldham.
The 27-year old Irishman has been dogged by hamstring problems since moving south from Aberdeen this summer.
"Richie is a player who has been on my radar for a little while," Mullen told the club's website, as he looks to add to a slender 19-man squad.
"He can play full back and centre back and has a decent pedigree."
Byrne will make his first appearance in Walsall colours in Tuesday night's Birmingham Senior Cup tie at Solihull Moors.
