Roberts missed Doncaster's play-off final win through injury
Walsall have signed out-of-contract Doncaster defender Stephen Roberts on a Bosman free transfer.
The 28-year-old Wales squad member turned down a new Rovers deal to sign a two-year contract with Walsall - and is Jimmy Mullen's first major signing.
"Stephen is a proven, quality player at League One level and he is beginning to earn international recognition," Mullen told the Saddlers' website.
Walsall plan to make further signings in the near future.
Roberts came through the ranks at Wrexham before joining Doncaster in the summer of 2005.
He spent three seasons at the Keepmoat Stadium and played a part in their promotion to the Championship in 2007/08 but missed their play-off final victory over Leeds through injury.
"He played a major role in Doncaster's success last term and we are delighted to have him on board," Mullen added.
