Tranmere defender Shaleum Logan is set to miss most of the side's run-in to the season due to a hernia problem.
The right-back, 22, on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City, will undergo an operation on Tuesday.
Manager Les Parry said: "We sent him back to Manchester City for them to have a look at him and it was decided he needed the operation.
"They're hoping to get him back here in four weeks. We've not written the season off for him."
Parry added: "It's a problem we've known he's had for a few weeks. You can carry on playing with hernias but it was getting gradually worse."
