Tranmere striker Ian Thomas-Moore says his side needed their 2-1 victory over Brighton on Saturday to get their season back on track.
Rovers secured the win with goals from Gareth Edds and John Welsh and are four points from safety in League One.
"The feeling to win at home is brilliant and it's been a long time coming," he told BBC Radio Merseyside.
"We've shown great character today and I think it will leave us in good stead for the next couple of games."
The 33-year-old says the players let former manager John Barnes down as they did not do enough on the pitch to change their fortunes.
Although he admits they have to do it now under caretaker boss Les Parry.

"John Barnes could only train us during the week, he couldn't come on the pitch and do anything," Thomas-Moore continued.
"It was up to us to go out and get the three points. We let John Barnes down when he was here and I think everyone knows that.
"But we've got new management here now and it's just like a new beginning for everybody. No one is guaranteed a place.
"That's the thing with Les - you know were you stand and you always will do with him. I think that's a good thing."
