Goodison honoured by supporters

Tranmere Rovers

Ian Goodison has been voted Tranmere Rovers supporters' player of the season for the second year in a row.

The Jamaican centre-half, now in his fifth season at the club, has made 44 appearances this term.

Anthony Kay told BBC Radio Merseyside that his club captain and fellow defender was a man of few words.

He said: "Ian Goodison, what can you say? He doesn't say a word! You've got to love him though, you just have to look at him and smile."

Kay was awarded the goal of the season award for his strike against Carlisle last December.

On his strike Kay added: "When you play at centre-half you never expect to get goal of the season! It was a great goal, one of the best I have ever scored."

Andy Taylor won supporters' young player of the year just four months after signing on a permanent basis from Blackburn Rovers.

He admitted that he has enjoyed his time at the club so far.

"It was an easy decision for me to sign in January because I had really enjoyed the previous two months [his initial loan spell]," said Taylor.

"I came to play regular first-team football and that is what I've been able to do. It's fantastic."

Paul McLaren and Steve Jennings were the other winners on the night, winning players' player of the season and players' young player of the year respectively.

Jennings, a product of the club's youth set-up, said he felt the award topped off a fine season for him personally.

"I came into this season with the attitude 'it has got to happen for me' and it has," said Jennings.

"I've ended up getting over 45 appearances this year and it's probably the best season I have had."
