Defoe has been linked with a move to Portsmouth or Villa |
Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe insists he is ready to stay at White Hart Lane and fight for his place. Defoe's future has been questioned after Darren Bent's arrival for 16.5m with fellow forwards Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane also at the club.
"I'm really excited about the new season and the prospect of another campaign in Europe," said Defoe, 24.
"We have made some good signings and are now stronger and better equipped to compete in all competitions."
England striker Defoe scored 10 Premier League goals last season while Keane notched 11 and Berbatov grabbed 12 goals.
 | I can't choose between them so I'd have to say all three (Berbatov, Keane and Defoe) are exciting |
Berbatov enjoyed a spellbinding first season at the club with his overall play and is seen as the club's main striker.
Bent's arrival for a big fee has increased the pressure on the places of Defoe and Keane.
Defoe is wanted by Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp, who managed the player when they were at West Ham, while Aston Villa were also believed to be interested in recruiting him.
But Defoe said: "We have competition for places in all positions and that can only be good for the team."

Spurs boss Martin Jol has given little hint that he is ready to sell the striker.
When asked by the club's magazine about the most exciting player he has worked with, Jol answered: "I would have to say Dimitar Berbatov, Robbie Keane and Jermain Defoe.
"I can't choose between them so I'd have to say all three are exciting."
