Spurs fine Sherwood
Spurs midfielder Tim Sherwood
Sherwood questioned Spurs' ambition
Tim Sherwood has been fined about 30,000 by Tottenham following his criticism of the club at the weekend.

The 33-year-old midfielder said Spurs were "a million miles away from winning the championship" because of a lack of summer signings.

The club have imposed a maximum fine of two weeks' wages but decided not to place Sherwood on the transfer list.

However his contract expires next summer and Spurs are likely to listen to offers for him before then.

Sherwood had complained: "No money has been made available to buy the top stars that you need to become genuine challengers.

"I can't believe Glenn Hoddle knew it would be like this when he took the job and, if he did, then I'm surprised he hasn't been stronger.

"I would certainly be disappointed that a man of his stature and reputation seems willing to accept such a situation."

Spurs manager Hoddle has faced with financial constraints this summer and has admitted he might have to sell midfielder Darren Anderton if it enables him to sign a striker.

China's 21-year-old World Cup striker Qu Bo has joined Tottenham on trial and could make his debut against Crystal Palace in a friendly on Wednesday night.

He started training with the north London club on Monday.
