Bradley Pritchard column

I shook his hand, and glared, then as it went quiet, all I could think of was… "wait till you read what I write about you in my blog!". He didn't need to reply. Who says that and expects to be taken seriously?!!

On his anger with referee Dean Mohareb

'If only' are two words that seem to sum up the two games against Luton and York on Saturday and Tuesday.

On Saturday, if only we had played the first half in the same fashion as the second. Possibly the occasion affected us. Like I've said before, I think we have players who love playing in front of big crowds, but maybe we were too aware of the occasion, hence the slow start.

If only we had five more minutes, I think we could have found an equaliser. All in all, Saturday was a disappointment, especially because I know many of us had been looking forward to that game for some time.

However, no matter how bad you feel after a game like that, it is always easier to accept because in a way, you've constructed your own fate.

There is no-one else to blame and so you take full responsibility. With that in mind it just highlights the immense frustration we felt on Tuesday against York.

This was our game in hand and a chance to bounce back. Unfortunately, the ref had other ideas. Some of the decisions he failed to see were honestly embarrassing, and no doubt they would have changed the game. But that's enough of my 'we was robbed' attitude.

I think the reaction towards the game on Tuesday just showed how much we want to succeed, and could be seen as another reminder that we're not just here to make up the numbers, but to be just as competitive as the more established Blue Square Premier teams.

Along with his Jamaican accent, it became obvious who's it was. Poor Seb Lake-Gaskin. How he fits into it I couldn't tell you, but it did raise a smile to everyone's faces

On "the longest and brightest yellow string vest ever"

On a lighter note though, those scenarios really show who is witty enough to verbally abuse the ref when put on the spot. Some players react by cursing (which normally ends in a booking) while others can actually hold their own when it comes to sledging.

I am neither. To be honest, I am possibly the worst at trying to be witty towards a ref. This became especially evident when the final whistle blew. The ref was bombarded by players asking how he didn't see a couple of blatant penalties.

Anyway, while I walked over I tried to think of something witty yet stinging. He dismissed the other players as I got near him. I shook his hand, and glared, then as it went quiet, all I could think of was… "wait till you read what I write about you in my blog!". He didn't need to reply. Who says that and expects to be taken seriously?! My anger dissolved into embarrassment. I think I'll leave the sledging to the others.

Anyway, training this week was enjoyable as always. We had our traditional possession 'circle' where Jake (Sheridan) was nominated to sing in front of the group. He sang that old early 1990s classic, the theme tune to Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Personally I think Wyldey (Michael Wylde) got away with it, because, even he would admit that he was awful.

606: DEBATE

After training we all stayed out for a bit of two-touch and some extra running. Out of the blue, however, Shawsy (Tom Shaw) came running out of the changing room in the longest and brightest yellow string vest ever!

Along with his Jamaican accent, it became obvious whose it was. Poor Seb (Lake-Gaskin). How he fits into it I couldn't tell you, but it did raise a smile to everyone's faces. Clothing is one of the biggest topics at training. No matter what you wear or how much it costs, the lads will always find something wrong with it.

Danny Alcock is one of the worst contributors to that banter. There are a few items that get regular abuse. Wyldey's extra tight jeans, my Gola trainers, Nathan's tea towel boxers and Des Lyttle's 1980s Adidas Run DMC tracksuit, to name a few. Sometimes I think you have to have a thick skin to cope in our changing room, but with the way we all get on, and the knowledge that it's always in good humour, does help.
