Swindon not worried by cash gulf

Swindon chief executive Nick Watkins
Watkins found Charlton's playing budget "staggering"

Swindon chief executive Nick Watkins is confident Town will not get left behind in a competitive League One.

Watkins told BBC Wiltshire the league table will look "remarkably like the Championship" with Southampton, Norwich and Charlton dropping to join Leeds.

But he is adamant that while the Robins will struggle to match their playing budgets, they will compete on a level playing field with the remaining teams.

"In terms of the Walsalls, Oldhams and Tranmeres, we can compete," he said.

"We are more than capable of competing with them, but I was looking at the annual reporting accounts of Charlton and their wage bill is staggering."

Danny Wilson's Robins avoided relegation to League Two by four points this season.

Southampton, Norwich, Charlton and Leeds have all played in the Premier League within the last six years.
