Malpas pulled no punches in his assessment of Swindon's performance
Manager Maurice Malpas branded Swindon as "pathetic" as they squeezed into the Johnstone's Paint Trophy second round.
Swindon won on penalties at Aldershot after a 2-2 draw in 90 minutes.
Malpas told BBC Radio Swindon: "The shoot-out was the easy bit. We were pathetic, we had no pace in our game and Aldershot passed the ball for fun.
"The players deserve credit for their attitude, they were playing poorly and they hung in there but in terms of performance it was very disappointing."
Mark Marshall scored the winning spot-kick as Swindon beat Aldershot 7-6 in a tense penalty shoot-out.
Swindon went ahead in normal time through Simon Cox's close-range effort, before Rob Elvins equalised just before half-time for the visitors.
Scott Davies' penalty put Aldershot ahead after Jerel Ifil was brought down by Danny Hylton.
But Ifil smashed in the equaliser to take the match to a shoot-out.
