We learned from Steaua - Malpas

Swindon manager Maurice Malpas says his side will have learned a lot from their 2-2 draw against Steaua Bucharest.

An own goal and a strike from Simon Cox meant Swindon led 2-0 at half-time, but Steaua equalised in stoppage time.

"I'm not sure if any our squad has played against that type of opposition before," Malpas told BBC Radio Swindon.

"They're Champions League material with internationals playing. Our players must have learned something, but I wouldn't want to play them every week."

Cox, scorer of the Swindon equaliser, pointed out: "Their two centre-halves today played every game for Poland in Euro 2008 so for us that was a good test and we didn't look out of place.

"Friendlies don't count for anything, but it would have been nice to hold on for the win."

Swindon face another big test on Saturday when they take on Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

Ghanaian trialist Kwasi Oduro will get a second chance to impress Malpas.

"He ran out of steam badly but I thought he did ok considering he only met the boys last night," added Malpas. "I'm happy he's turned up and is keen to play and he'll play again on Saturday."
