De Vries breaks Freestone record

Swansea City goalkeeper Dorus de Vries modestly hailed his team-mates after breaking Roger Freestone's club record for most shut-outs in a season.

The Dutchman achieved the feat in their 3-0 hammering of Scunthorpe and his 23rd clean sheet surpassed Freestone's record of 22 from the 1999-2000 season.

"It was a great team performance," de Vries told BBC Sport.

"To keep a clean sheet and break the record of a Swansea legend is absolutely amazing,"

De Vries, who joined the Welsh club on a free from Dunfermline Athletic in 2007, enjoyed a quiet day in Swansea's convincing victory over Scunthorpe.

"Our team is very difficult to beat, very consistent and very organised," manager Paulo Sousa told BBC Sport Wales.

"It's all about the squad, the defensive organisation is very good."

Swansea's biggest league victory of the season revived their Championship play-off push as the Iron triumph ended their unwanted run of six matches without a win.

"As a team we did really well to get back to winning ways after a tough game at Cardiff on Saturday," said the 29-year-old keeper.

"It was one of the quietest afternoons I've had, I didn't have a shot to save or cross to come for.

"It was a great team day, we defended really high up against every threat they had. It was good to see."

The only negative on Swansea's day was that their play-off rivals Leicester and Blackpool also claimed vital and emphatic victories.

The Swans lie fifth in the table, one point ahead of the Foxes and two above Blackpool.

"With four games to go we have to keep winning games, especially at home," said de Vries.

"I'm really glad, it was a great result and performance. We created many chances with Swansea City style."
