Swansea midfielder Leon Britton confirms Wigan interest
Premier interest flattering - Britton
Swansea City midfielder Leon Britton has revealed Premier League club Wigan Athletic are interested in signing him.
The 27-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season, is interested in a top-flight move to link up with former Swans boss Roberto Martinez.
"Obviously Roberto knows me well," Britton said. "It's always nice to know that he likes me as a player.
"He has made an inquiry to the club about my availability. I know the clubs have been talking."
The former Arsenal youngster is one of Swansea's longest-serving players after joining from West Ham United in 2003 - after a brief loan spell - as a teenager.
Britton, who roomed with Wigan boss Martinez when the pair were together at Swansea, is worth about £1.5m and would expect a big pay rise should he move to the Premier League.
The fans' favourite previously conceded he was "surprised and disappointed" that Paulo Sousa made public details of his contract negotiations.
The Swansea boss revealed Britton, who has made more than 300 appearances for the Welsh club, would become one of the best paid players in the club's history.
The long-serving playmaker has been instrumental in transforming the club from a bottom division struggler to a team that is considered a Premier League promotion contender.
But Britton has a young daughter and has previously admitted he has been unsettled by the turmoil of his recent split with his daughter's mother who has moved back to his native London.
Martinez has already signed one-time Swans stars Jason Scotland and Jordi Gomez for Wigan and the Spaniard, who has previously stated Britton has Premier League quality, is interested in signing Britton.
"Obviously the chairman has talked about it now and there has been contact between the two clubs," Britton told the South Wales Evening Post.
"I know they have been talking and, with my contract situation, everyone knows I'm free to talk with other clubs.
"It's a difficult one for me. I am still here at Swansea, I am under contract and I am enjoying my football.
"I'd like to think my performances show I'm still fully committed even though these things are going on. But other than that I can't really say much about it until I am fully informed by the club.
"I certainly won't be disappointed if nothing happens. I am under contract at Swansea and my feelings towards the club haven't changed.
"I've still got five months on my contract and, before Wigan's interest came around, my thoughts were fully focused on being here until the end of the season.
"That is still the case and I am still a Swansea player.
"If something happens and the club agree a fee then you have to go from there. But, if not, I am fully committed to the club and trying to get Swansea in the Premier League."
Wigan manager Martinez hopes to bolster his squad before the transfer window closes on 1 February and Lactics midfielder Ben Watson, also a transfer target for Swansea's Welsh Championship rivals Cardiff, may be a makeweight in any deal.
