Bolton may not be able to get their hands on Swansea's Ferrie Bodde
Bolton are set to end their interest in midfielder Ferrie Bodde unless Swansea reduce their £5m asking price, BBC Sport Wales understands.
The Trotters had a £2.5m bid for the Dutchman turned down in June but would be prepared to up their offer to £3m.
Wigan, managed by ex-Swans boss Roberto Martinez, are also understood to be interested in Bodde but are not willing to match Swansea's valuation either.
Bodde is due to discuss his future with Swans chairman Huw Jenkins next week.
The 27-year-old midfielder joined Swansea in the summer of 2007 from ADO Den Haag for what proved to be a bargain £80,000.
Half of any fee that the Liberty Stadium side receive for Bodde would have to go to his former club in the Netherlands as part of a sell-on clause.
Bodde is currently recovering from a serious knee injury that kept him out of the latter half of last season, although he has been able to attend pre-season training.
However, he is unlikely to figure in the early part of the season and will definitely miss Saturday's new season opener away to Leicester City.
In June 2008 Bodde handed in a transfer request but had it turned down by Swansea.
Bodde had enjoyed a superb season and had been a key figure in Swansea's midfield as they romped to the League One title.
His performances attracted attention from other clubs, with relegated Premier League sides Derby and Reading both keen on signing Bodde at the time.
While new Swansea manager Paolo Sousa is not keen on Bodde departing the Liberty Stadium, he has admitted that he has told some of the players that they can leave.
Sousa feels that several members of his squad would benefit from a transfer to another club.
"They need to leave, because for a football player the best thing is to play, not to be a part only of the squad," Sousa said.
"In my opinion and with my philosophy I want to have a smaller squad because I don't like to see players training... without enthusiasm, without ambitions."
It is understood that Swansea could release as many as 10 players as Sousa trims his squad.
