Flynn and Reeves signed new two-year contracts last summer |
Swansea City manager Brian Flynn and assistant Kevin Reeves have left their positions at the Vetch. Flynn took control in September 2002 with the Swans bottom of the Third Division and saved them from the drop on the last day of last season.
A recent poor run of form has seen the Swans drop out of the play-off race.
A club statement says Flynn and Reeves have left by mutual consent and that Alan Curtis and Richard Evans will take over in a caretaker role.
When he came to the Vetch, Flynn became Swansea's third manager in 18 months, but he looked set for a long reign after signing a new two-year deal last summer.
A statement on the club website reads:
 | BRIAN FLYNN FACTFILE Born: Port Talbot, 12/10/55 Clubs: Burnley, Leeds, Cardiff, Wrexham International caps: 66 Managerial positions: Wrexham, Swansea, Wales U21 |
"The club wish to announce that both Brian Flynn and Kevin Reeves have left by mutual consent. "The club would like to thank them both for their hard work in stabilising the club and securing league status at the end of last season."
Port Talbot-born Flynn, 48, was a hard-working midfielder who won 66 Wales caps in a playing career which saw him represent Burnley, Leeds, Cardiff City and Wrexham.
He moved smoothly into a coaching position at the Racecourse, proving one of their most successful managers in a 12-year association with the club that ended in September 2001.
During that time he also managed Wales Under-21, and he has been touted as a future international manager.
A move back to south Wales proved attractive, and when he landed the Swans job Flynn claimed it was the fulfilment of a childhood dream.
Since saving the club from relegation, he took the Swans on an early-season charge to the top of the Third Division, led them on a memorable FA Cup run and proved a shrewd dealer in the transfer market.
A slump in form has seen hopes of second-division football next season fade, though, and a tame 2-1 midweek loss at Macclesfield proved Flynn's last association with the club.
