Flynn commits to Swansea
Brian Flynn
Flynn has targeted a top finish for Swansea next season
Brian Flynn said he pledged his future to Swansea City after the club convinced him of their future ambitions.

Flynn and his assistant Kevin Reeves singed new two-year contracts with Swansea, while former coach Alan Curtis was appointed the club's director of youth development.

The Swans only avoided relegation from the Football League after a 4-2 win over Hull on the last day of the season.

Flynn said his decision to stay in charge at the Vetch was made easy once the club revealed they were determined to be fighting at the other end of the table next season.

"We had discussions over the weekend and I must say the negotiations were done in a very professional manner," Flynn told BBC Sport.

"I'm delighted it's all been sorted out so quickly. We need to move this club forward. We are in this together and that's what come out of the negotiations."

Flynn took over at Swansea last September when the club was rock bottom of the Third Division. He was the club's third manager in 18 months.

The club's directors have finally realised the need for stability at the Vetch - a view fully endorsed by Flynn.

"The number of managers Swansea has had over the past 12 years has been a recipe for disaster," said Flynn, who spent 12 years as Wrexham manager.

"You've got to look long-term and one of those visions has been taken by making Alan Curtis director of youth."

Flynn released his retain list for next season on Wednesday, and said he is hopeful that all those offered new contracts will soon put pen to paper.

He said negotiations with Lenny Johnrose and Kieron Durkan were on-going, but confirmed that Matt Murphy, Andrew Mumford, Steve Watkin, John Williams Gareth Phillips, Neil Sharp, Terry Evans and Jamie Wood will be leaving the club.

Flynn added: "I'm going to be busy in the coming weeks planning for next season, the pre-season games and training programmes.

"I'm obviously hoping to bring in players and I've already identified the players we want."

Swansea City's directors said they were delighted Flynn had agreed to stay for another two seasons.

"Having experienced all that we have during the last 18 months, we hope, as a board of directors, that the time has come that we can now concentrate on building the club to secure a bright future.

"If the fantastic support we have received this season continues then this football club can only head in one direction," the club said in a statement.
