Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson has reiterated that he is happy playing for his hometown club, amid speculation surrounding his future on Wearside.

The 20-year-old has been linked with a string of Premier League clubs, including Manchester United.

"I've always wanted to play for this club and I'm loving every minute," Henderson told BBC Newcastle.

"[The speculation] doesn't bother me. I'm loving my football and I just want to keep playing."

Henderson forced his way into the Sunderland first team last season, making 33 appearances in the top flight, and has been ever-present for Steve Bruce's side this season.

The England international has operated wide on the right and in his favoured central midfield role so far, scoring once in 22 starts.

"I'm just happy to be playing. I do like playing in the middle to be honest, but if I play on the right I enjoy that as well, so it doesn't make a difference," Henderson added.

"I feel as though I'm getting stronger with every game I play."
