Sunderland 'resilience' pleases manager Steve Bruce

Bruce's side have conceded just seven league goals in eight games this season

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce believes the club's away performances this season suggest his players have nothing to fear in the Premier League.

The Wearsiders drew 0-0 at Blackburn on Monday, and have recorded draws at Liverpool and Wigan Athletic on their travels this season.

"There's a resilience about us, I don't think we're that soft touch any more," Bruce told BBC Newcastle.

"I look at the squad and we're capable of getting a result away from home."

Bruce added: "Slowly but surely we're getting there, there's a mentality getting there, and that is to do with the honest of the personnel we've got in the squad at the moment."

Currently on a run of six games unbeaten, Sunderland remain 13th in the Premier League, and have conceded just seven goals in their eight games so far.

However, only Darren Bent, with five goals, and Asamoah Gyan, with one, have been able to find the net for the club in league games this season, with just seven goals scored in total.

"Defensively we've got one of the best records in the league, but offensively we need to score more, we know what to do," Bruce added.

"I'm delighted with the way we've taken part in games, and for instance in the first half at Blackburn we looked like a really good team again.

"I think we're close, but I think we need a win, a couple of wins at that to make sure that we get what we deserve."
