Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon continued his comeback from injury with a clean sheet as the Black Cats reserves won 1-0 at Everton.
The Scot, 27, is yet to appear for the first team this season, having broken his arm on the eve of the campaign.
His deputy, Belgian Simon Mignolet, has impressed manager Steve Bruce and again started for Monday's draw at Blackburn.
However, Gordon could now come into contention for a return when the Black Cats entertain Aston Villa on Saturday.
Tuesday's second-string victory was Sunderland's first of the season and came courtesy of Jordan Cook's first-half strike.
Northern Ireland international David Healy was also in the starting line-up for Keith Bertschin's team.
