Sunderland's Jordan Henderson out injured for six weeks
Henderson has been a key member of Sunderland's midfield this season
Sunderland have confirmed that Jordan Henderson will be out of action for six weeks because of an ankle injury.
The 19-year-old midfielder damaged ligaments against Wigan on 6 February and medical tests on Monday revealed the extent of Henderson's problem.
"Obviously we're glad there's no serious damage, but to be without a player like Jordan for six weeks is a blow," said manager Steve Bruce.
Sunderland have a selection crisis ahead of Saturday's trip to Arsenal.
Midfielders Lee Cattermole and David Meyler are both banned, Steed Malbranque is doubtful with a chest injury and Andy Reid is battling a hamstring problem.
Henderson, who has been one of the Black Cats' outstanding players during a difficult season, was carried off on a stretcher at the Stadium of Light shortly after he had set up the equalising goal for Kenwyne Jones in the 64th minute.
Capped at youth level by England, Henderson has played 28 times for Sunderland this season, scoring twice.
Sunderland are only three points above the relegation zone after a woeful run of only one win in their last 16 Premier League games.
