Sunderland midfielder Kieran Richardson insists the 4-0 win over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday was the perfect response to a tough week.
The Black Cats recorded their biggest win of the campaign just nine days after former boss Roy Keane left the Stadium of Light.
Richardson told BBC Radio Newcastle: "Obviously it's been a hard time for us but we are on the up.
"It was a tremendous performance from everyone, everyone did their graft."
He added: "We did Ricky (Sbragia), Neil (Bailey) and Yorkie (Dwight Yorke) proud, and it was a good performance from the whole team.

"Ricky's doing a good job at the moment and long may it continue.
"Hopefully we can beat Hull next week."
