Yorke is yet to play for Sunderland in the Premier League this season

Sunderland boss Roy Keane has given his approval for Dwight Yorke to play for Trinidad and Tobago next month, despite concerns over the striker's fitness.

Keane's stance follows a recent row with Jack Warner, Fifa vice-president and special advisor to the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation.

Yorke, 36, has been selected for World Cup qualifiers against Guatemala and the United States.

"He will go, but he has no chance of being fit for three games," said Keane.

Former Aston Villa and Manchester United forward Yorke has also been included in the national squad for a friendly with the Dominican Republic.

"Nobody will ever change my mind on that (Yorke's fitness), nobody, not even Mr Warner, whatever his name is. Nobody," said Keane.

The Irishman called Warner "a clown" for writing a letter blaming him for Yorke missing Trinidad and Tobago's matches against Guatemala and the United States earlier this month.

Warner had accused Keane of "insensitivity and disrespect" during the row.

"My big issue the last month was that he wasn't 100% fit," Keane added.

"I still don't think he is capable of going over there and playing three games in eight or nine days.

"He goes with my best wishes, and he knows that. But he wasn't fit enough to play two games last month."

Trinidad and Tobago, currently third in their qualifying group, face Guatemala on 11 October and the US in the Port of Spain four days later.

Yorke will be joined in the Trinidad and Tobago squad by Sunderland team-mate Carlos Edwards, Southampton forward Stern John, Coventry midfielder Chris Birchall, St Johnstone winger Collin Samuel, Falkirk playmaker Russell Latapy, Swansea's Dennis Lawrence and Walsall goalkeeper Clayton Ince.
