Yorke will undertake his 20th pre-season as a professional
Dwight Yorke has signed a new one-year deal with Sunderland after rejecting offers to move elsewhere.
The former Manchester United player moved to Sunderland from Australian A-League side Sydney FC in August 2006.
"His experience on and off the pitch is invaluable," manager Roy Keane said of the 36-year-old.
"He's a great character to have in the dressing room and around the training ground and he will have a part to play for us next season."
Yorke helped the Black Cats win promotion in his first season with the club and was influential in helping them stay in the Premier League last season, making 21 appearances in a defensive midfield role.
"It has been a tremendous two years for me at Sunderland," he said. "I've got to know the players and the staff and the fans have been great to me.
"In the end it was a straightforward decision.
"I had one or two things to think about, but when the manager gave me the thumbs up, it was easy to sign."
The Trinidad & Tobago international was expected to leave this summer, with Sydney FC reported to be interested in re-signing him, but the player recently admitted his time on Wearside has been one of the happiest in football.
