NatWest Pro 40 D1, Uxbridge: Durham 202-3 (36.2 overs) beat Middlesex 200 (36.1 overs) by seven wickets
Collingwood produced some magnificent shots during an aggressive innings |
Paul Collingwood bounced back from the disappointment of being dropped by England to steer Durham to a Pro40 win over Middlesex at Uxbridge. Collingwood, axed for the second Test against South Africa, made 78 not out off 66 balls in a seven-wicket victory. He struck six sixes in a match-winning stand of 132 with Shiv Chanderpaul (58) as the visitors reached 202-3 with 23 balls to spare. Middlesex were all out for 200 in their innings as Steve Harmison took 4-31. It was a disappointing batting effort by the home side, with the exception of Owais Shah (73) and Ed Joyce (49), and their last six wickets went down for just 26 runs. Shah lofted Collingwood away for two successive sixes in the 23rd over, but the England one-day skipper took his revenge by running him out with a throw from mid-wicket. Durham lost Phil Mustard for 19 as they began their reply, the left-hander top edging a pull off Tim Murtagh, but progressed smoothly to 60-1 before two quick wickets revived Middlesex's hopes. Michael Di Venuto was taken at backward point off Tyron Henderson for 25 and Will Smith, a double centurion in Durham's Championship win over Surrey, mis-read a ball from left-arm spinner Murali Kartik and was bowled for 14. But Collingwood and Chanderpaul used their international experience to survive the rocky patch and see their side home with some comfort.
