Stranraer say their plan to change the structure of the club to resolve recent financial problems has been welcomed by fans and Scottish League bosses.
The club has debts of around 250,000, and held a meeting this week to outline a plan to become a limited company.
And committee member Alex Thomson said the SFL had been giving advice.
"The SFL have asked us to work on fulfilling five criteria. They said our initial request seems fine in principle," he told the club website.
"We will now spend the next couple of weeks working on these criteria and will go back to them with what we've done."
The second division club plan another public meeting to give further details once the plans take more detailed shape.
