Stoke defender Danny Pugh has extended his deal with the Britannia Stadium club to run until 2013.
The 28-year-old was signed from Preston in January 2008 and is currently on loan with the Championship strugglers until mid-January.
"It's important we look after those who helped start what we have achieved over the past three years and Danny is one of them," said Stoke boss Tony Pulis.
Pugh made only four outings for Stoke before going on loan to Deepdale.
Pulis, speaking on the Stoke website, added: "Although he has found it difficult to command a place in the squad this season he is an excellent professional and every club needs players with his qualities who can be relied upon to come in and do a good job if required.
"The impact he has made at Preston is evidence of that and he will benefit from playing regular first-team football."
