Delap backing Simonsen to shine

Stoke City midfielder Rory Delap believes Steve Simonsen is an able deputy for goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen, if the Dane is ruled out with injury.

Sorensen suffered a back injury in the 2-1 defeat by Chelsea at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday.

"We're not worried," Delap told BBC Radio Stoke. "We've got two really good keepers at the club. When Simmo has played he's never let the side down.

"If he gets the chance now it's his chance to keep the number one spot."

Despite Simonsen's heroics, the Potters could not hold the Premier League leaders, who won the game in stoppage time through Florent Malouda.

"I'm devastated," added Delap. "I'd rather get tanked 4-0 than lose like that.

"It's going to make it a long week, but we'll pick ourselves up and look towards Bolton on Saturday.

"We're not going to play teams off the park and play the beautiful game as people say, but we'll stand up with everyone and we're not going to give anyone an easy game."
