Two separate Stoke City teams were beaten by non-league outfits in their first pre-season friendlies on Sunday.
Manager Tony Pulis watched the 2-1 defeat by Newcastle Town in which winger Matthew Etherington scored his first goal for the Potters.
Meanwhile, first-team coach Mark O'Connor was in charge of the team that were beaten 2-0 by Nantwich Town.
Stoke's players, who only returned to training on Thursday, embark on a week-long tour of Austria on Wednesday.
O'Connor told BBC Radio Stoke: "They should do better than that, and the players know they should do better than that.
"There was no lack of effort, they were just short on quality. But the important thing was that we didn't pick up any injuries."
