Stoke City chairman Peter Coates says the Potters are aiming to take the Championship title against Leicester City on Sunday.
Coates told BBC Radio Stoke: "We've always said we want to go up as Champions and I feel we can do that."
Promotion would be a remarkable achievement for Coates, who only returned to the club two years ago.
"I came back to try and get promotion, you can't put a time on things, you just want it as soon as possible."
Coates said: "Our target at the beginning of the season was to finish in the top six.
"We're in pole position for promotion and win on Sunday will leave us all smiling."
The Potters will take to the field at a sold out Britannia Stadium on Sunday, knowing a point against Leicester will be good enough to end a 23-year spell outside of English football's top flight.
"Football is a tough business so if we can get the job done on Sunday it will be a fantastic day for everybody.
"I'm just the same as every other fan, I want us to do it for the club and the city."
