Southend United have told five of their current first team squad that they will not be offered new deals when their contracts expire this summer.
Goalkeeper Rhys Evans, defender Johnny Herd and midfielders Adam Bouzid, Miguel Comminges and Louis Soares will leave the club.
All five have struggled to hold down a regular place in Paul Sturrock's starting 11 this season.
Sturrock has guided Southend to a mid-table finish in League Two.
The Blues have also started their preparations for next season by announcing they will be taking on Ipswich Town in a friendly at Roots Hall on 22 July.
