Goalkeeper Glenn Morris makes Southend United move
Morris came through the Leyton Orient youth ranks
Former Leyton Orient goalkeeper Glenn Morris has become the ninth player to sign pre-contract terms with Southend after a successful trial at the club.
The 26-year-old will finalise a one-year deal as soon as the Shrimpers have their transfer embargo lifted.
He has spent the last two weeks training with Paul Sturrock's side and played in the second half of Monday's 1-1 friendly draw with Derby County.
After nine years at Brisbane Road he was released this summer.
Morris made 124 league appearances for the O's but lost out to Jamie Jones in a battle to be the club's first-choice stopper.
Sturrock, who himself has not finalised his own contract as manager, has already signed Craig Easton, Sofiene Zaaboub, Ryan Hall, Blair Sturrock, Mohsni Bilel, Peter Gilbert, Barry Corr and Sean Clohessy on pre-contract terms.
Meanwhile the club's chairman Ron Martin has been elected onto the board of the Football League.
He told the club website: "I have served previously on the Football League board as a representative of League Two and I was keen to stand again.
"I would like to continue to influence the future of the game especially during these challenging economic times."
Martin is currently fighting a winding-up petition on the club from Charterhouse Commercial Finance Plc and an application from HM Revenue and Customs to put them into administration.
