Southend United boss Tilson confirms February salary

Southend United

Southend United manager Steve Tilson has confirmed his players have now been paid their February wages, but are still waiting for their March payments.

He told BBC Essex: "We've been paid February's money this week, so only March is outstanding at the moment.

"The chairman is trying to sort that out over the next week or so."

The Blues have struggled to pay their staff for several months and they are due in the High Court to sort out an outstanding tax bill next week.

"I've said it many times, this short-term thing is a problem, there's no doubt about it," added Tilson.

We want to stay in this division and build from that

Southend are currently in the League One relegation zone, three points from safety.

The manager believes the off-field problems are not helping their league form.

"It certainly doesn't help my situation because it has been difficult," he said.

"Long-term, I keep saying, it looks rosy. But long-term is no good for us at the moment. We want to stay in this division and build from that."
