Southend striker Spencer to miss the rest of the season
Southend striker Scott Spencer has been ruled out for the rest of the season with an ankle injury.
The 21-year-old was substituted during during the Shrimpers' 3-0 defeat by Gillingham on Monday and scans revealed he suffered ligament and tendon damage.
Spencer arrived at Roots Hall in January from Rochdale and has scored four goals in 12 appearances.
Boss Steve Tilson told BBC Essex: "It's disappointing news. It's another casualty, which doesn't help."
He added: "We're short of bodies anyway and to lose another one is not good news. We've got to pick ourselves up and be ready for Saturday."
