Southend United have been granted a 35-day extension by the High Court to repay outstanding debts.
The ruling against the League One club came at a winding-up hearing which had been adjourned from February.
They are in dispute with HM Revenue and Customs, who claim they are still owed money, believed to be £183,000.
United have also been hit by a transfer embargo after it emerged the Professional Footballers' Association paid their players' wages for January.
Southend say the new tax bill has not been settled because they claim an original £2.1m bill was overpaid.
