Watt was part of Arsenal's under-18 double winning team last season

Southend United have received confirmation of the loan signing of young Arsenal winger Sanchez Watt.

The Blues made a bid for the 18-year-old just before the close of Monday's transfer deadline, but had to wait until Tuesday for it to be verified.

He has joined the League One side for an initial one-month spell.

Watt has made three first-team appearances for the Gunners in the League Cup this season, scoring on his debut against West Bromwich Albion.

The England under-18 international will go into Steve Tilson's squad for next Monday night's Essex derby at Colchester.

Tilson has been keeping eye on Watt for some time.

"He plays on the left wing, but can also play on the left side of a three-man attack," he told the club's website.

"That is something we haven't had in the team for a while, so it's a good option to have."
