Southend United have signed goalkeeper Ian Joyce on a one-year contract.

The American shot stopper was with Watford last season but was released at the end of the campaign.

The 22-year-old has previous League experience with Luton and could represent the USA at next month's Olympics in Beijing.

He told the club website: "It's a great opportunity for me and I hope to do a good job for Southend. I'm really looking forward to the season."
