Goalkeeper Darryl Flahavan has left Southend and joined Crystal Palace on a free transfer on a three-year deal.

The 29-year-old, who joined the Shrimpers from Woking in 2000, was recently offered a new one-year deal at Roots Hall.

Flahavan told Palace's website: "Julian Speroni had a terrific season last year and I am under no illusions.

"I have come here to compete with him and try my best but I know it will be tough for me."
