Southampton are trying to discover the whereabouts of striker Agustin Delgado after he failed to report back for pre-season training on Tuesday.

There have been rumours that Ecuador international Delgado is unhappy at the club and wants a move but Southampton are waiting to contact the player before taking any action.

There is also speculation that Delgado may have had a recurrence of a knee injury.

"Delgado has not turned up and we are looking into reasons," Saints manager Gordon Strachan told the club's official website.

"Once we find out the reasons then we will make a further statement."

The uncertainty over �3.2m signing Delgado's situation has been fuelled by his recent comments.

"I would have liked to have been transferred, but if this has not happened I have to return to Southampton, with the greatest desire that things work out well for the team and for me," he told the Ecuador FA website.

In contrast, Delgado's international team-mate Kleber Chala did return on time.
