Craig Disley has expressed his concerns about finding a new club, after being released by Shrewsbury Town last month.

The 29-year-old midfielder left the Greenhous Meadow following an injury-hit season in which he made his last appearance in February.

"There are a lot of people looking for jobs so it'll be a bit of dogfight," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"It's going to be manic, there are going to be people waiting on contracts and a lot looking for work."

He added: "It's also a time when you have to start thinking of life after football, especially this summer with how tough it is and how many players there are out there.

"It makes you realise that there's life after football, and it's something you have to see what you can do about.

"I know I am worth a new club, but it's also a time when you have to start thinking of life after football."

Disley believes injuries were the cause of his departure from the Greenhous Meadow.

"If you'd asked me before Christmas if I thought I'd be released, I'd never have expected it," he said.

"I was playing some of my best football for a couple of years but then I got injured and it never really happened after that - for whatever reason I couldn't get back into the team."

Disley came through the Mansfield youth system and made his professional debut for the Stags in September 1999.

He moved to Bristol Rovers in 2004, helping them to promotion from League Two in 2008 before being released a year later when he joined Shrewsbury on a two-year deal.

Disley has also denied he is set to join Port Vale after someone pretending to be him made the claim on Twitter.
