Scunthorpe United defender Niall Canavan has joined Shrewsbury Town on loan until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old has made 10 appearances for the Iron this season after signing his first professional contract in summer 2009.
Canavan told the Shrewsbury website: "I spoke to my family and decided it was a great move for me.
"Scunthorpe have taken care of me since the age of 14 and they see this move as a good opportunity for me."
The Leeds-born defender has not made a first-team outing since November because of a knee injury but has recently made two reserve appearances.
"I have come here with the aim of playing games, so it's up to me to show what I can do and get a place in the team," Canavan added.
"It's good that I have got the time to mix in with the lads and get to know them before the weekend's game."
