Jon Taylor hopes for first-team run at Shrewsbury Town
Taylor (18) previously captained the Shrews youth team.
Shrewsbury Town midfielder Jon Taylor made a great impression in his bid for a place, scoring twice on his first start, Tuesday's 3-0 win over Burton.
Despite Town boss Graham Turner getting six new deals done on transfer deadline day, the 21-year-old believes that he can earn a regular starting role.
"If I keep performing then hopefully I won't give the gaffer a doubt about me," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.
"That means I've got to work even harder to play again."
Taylor was only told hours before kick-off that he was in the side to face Burton and he was delighted to end the game with a brace.
"I was nervous in the first half, so the first goal really settled me down," he said. "It was a real dream to score - but then to get another one was unbelievable.
"It's a game I'll remember for the rest of my life."
The 5ft 4ins Liverpool-born midfielder added: "I was so excited I couldn't sleep for the next two nights."
Taylor was picked up by Wigan and worked his way up the junior ranks before switching to the youth system at Shrewsbury a couple of years ago.
"It's worked out for the best," he said. "A mate of mine at Wigan, who's 21, still hasn't made his debut but here I am in the first team dressing room at Shrewsbury."
