Shrewsbury have signed Torquay's Nicky Wroe for an undisclosed fee, with striker Jake Robinson going in the opposite direction on loan.
Midfielder Wroe, 25, was placed on the transfer list in October by United boss Paul Buckle.
Robinson, 24, has joined the Gulls on loan until the end of the season.
He joined the Shrews on a free transfer from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2009 and has scored nine goals so far this season.
