Defender Exodus Geohaghon's loan stay with Shrewsbury has been cut short after he suffered a knee injury.
The 25-year-old, who was due to be with the Shrews until January, will need surgery and has returned to parent club Peterborough United.
Shrewsbury boss Graham Turner told BBC Radio Shropshire: "He won't play for us again in this loan period.
"It's unlikely he's going to play for a while. It's very disappointing because he made an impact when he came in."
Geohaghon joined Shrewsbury in November and made three appearances before suffering the injury against Stevenage.
He returned to training two weeks later but was forced to pull out and further tests showed surgery was needed to repair torn cartilage.
On-loan Manchester City youngster Andrew Tutte will also miss Saturday's game against Cheltenham with a back problem.
