Shrewsbury Town striker Dave Hibbert hates being compared with Grant Holt, whose 28 goals last season led to his £450,000 summer move to Norwich.

Hibbert, Town's 14-goal top scorer this term, told BBC Radio Shropshire: "I don't want to be compared to Holty. I just want to go on doing well here.

"People obviously watch you, but I want to stay and make sure we get promotion.

Town boss Paul Simpson said: "I want Hibbert to stay. He's doing a good job, and I want him to continue doing that."

Simpson added: "Dave Hibbert's on a great run of form at the moment, and I'm delighted with him and delighted for him.

"As long as strikers are scoring goals there'll be people talking, but I've had no official approaches from anyone yet.

"And I'd like to keep it that way because he's doing a job for us and I want him to stay and do that job."

The 24-year-old's success is a remarkable turnaround since earning a late call for Shrewsbury's first game of the season against Burton.

He scored one of the goals in a 3-1 win, and has not looked back since.

"I've always believed in myself," he said. "But I've obviously had to prove a lot of people wrong here, especially last season, when people didn't see me at my best, and I've had to go away and work hard to improve myself.

"It's been a long road back from injury. I didn't even have a pre-season. I still have to do exercises before and after training to make sure I stay fit - and it seems to be paying off."

Hibbert went into Saturday's game against Accrington Stanley looking to become the first Shrewsbury Town player to score in six consecutive league games, but missed out - leaving him joint-best on five back-to-back.

"People have been talking about records and all sorts of things, but I'm not paying any attention to that," he said.

"I just want to go out there and carry on enjoying my football, and if I score - great."
