Paul Simpson is upset by abusive Shrewsbury Town fans

Shrewsbury manager Paul Simpson was disappointed to be criticised by a section of club supporters during their 1-1 draw at Burton on Saturday.

Dave Hibbert gave Town the lead before Greg Pearson equalised for 10-man Burton after the break.

"I find it incredible how I was abused when we've taken seven points out of nine away from home," Simpson told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"I know it's only a small minority but they need to take a reality check."

Simpson added: "They need to take a look at where we are in the table and the injuries we've had to put up with this season.

"As a team, we stick together and we'll keep going, but I'm disappointed our fans don't stick together as well."

Simpson's side have beaten Bradford and Chesterfield as well as drawing at Burton in their last three games on the road.

He added: "This is not a complaint against the majority of our supporters, who've been superb.

"But we've just taken seven points out of nine in difficult away games and the abuse takes the edge off what we're trying to do.

"We'll all keep our heads though, and when we return to the Prostar [against Dagenham on Saturday] hopefully we'll put on a performance that our stadium deserves and that we know the players are capable of."

Shrewsbury are currently fifth in League Two, having played more games than their play-off rivals but with four of their next five fixtures at home.
