Simpson extends Shrews contract

Paul Simpson
Simpson's playing career included spells with Man City, Oxford and Derby

Shrewsbury Town boss Paul Simpson has agreed a 12-month contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2012.

The ex-Preston and Carlisle boss, 43, took over at Town in March 2008 after replacing Gary Peters, who left the League Two club by mutual consent.

In his first season in charge, Simpson took his side to the League Two play-off final but they missed out on promotion, losing 1-0 to Gillingham.

Shrewsbury are eighth in League Two, four points off leaders Bournemouth.

Simpson told the club's website: "I'm delighted that the chairman has asked me to extend my contract by 12 months.

"Hopefully we can continue to build like we have done since I joined the club and we can all help to bring success to the club."
