Dean Holden started his career under Sam Allardyce at Bolton Wanderers
Shrewsbury Town summer signing Dean Holden is eyeing promotion with the beaten League Two play-off finalists.
The 29-year-old defender, signed from Falkirk, has been impressed with the strength of Town's squad, as well as their pre-season preparations.
"You can see the work ethic, the professionalism and the quality of the squad," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.
"I know every team aims to go up, but there's something special here and I'm delighted to be part of it."
The Salford-born defender, who started his career under Sam Allardyce at Bolton before moving onto Oldham, then Peterborough, has reported himself in great shape, despite breaking his leg with Falkirk last year.
"I feel great," he said. "I've played 25 or so games since then and I feel stronger than ever.
"I had a great time in Scotland and I loved my time at Falkirk, but I felt it was time for me and my family to go back to England and once this opportunity came up I couldn't wait to sign.
"I cut short my holiday when Shrewsbury got in touch, and the way the club's going and the professionalism of what Paul Simpson wants to do stood out."
