Midfielder David Hunt has been released by Shrewsbury as manager Paul Simpson makes room for new January signings.
"He's a player I've had a good look at and I've decided he isn't quite what we're looking for," said Simpson.
Hunt, signed by former boss Gary Peters in the summer of 2007, has suffered from a series of niggling injuries.
"At the moment we're looking at ways to save money with a view to bringing in players we think will make us better," Simpson told the club website.
Hunt, 26, joined Shrewsbury from Northampton. He was previously with Leyton Orient and Crystal Palace.
He has agreed to a settlement of the remainder of his contract, which was due to run out in July.
